I spotted a no-lock S&W 340 on gunbroker and bought it for $650+S&H. It came in a paper box and not in a nice blue polymer box one expects from S&W. I already mailed a $50 promo coupon to S&W and will see how long it will take to get the money back.
The revolver is extremely nice; I enjoy holding it in hand and shooting. I already shot it 200 times with a garden variety .38 special ammo, including a few reloads, CCI Blazer, no-name old round-nose ammo, etc. There were no misfires. I can shoot it fairly accurately out to 25 yards, my old far-sighted eyes and a big-dot front sight help. Tales about the pull being too heavy are not true. The pull is probably around 10-11 pounds and one with experience can handle it without any problems. I do not think this gun needs Apex kit or anything.
Overall, very happy with this little gun. It rides in old Nemesis pocket holster nicely.
A few photos to follow.

I've put 50rds of Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 135gr .357MAG thru mine already, along with numerous amounts of .38SPL & .38SPL+P. The Speer .357MAG was no where as bad as described by some. I've gone to the range with it (10) times since I bought and each time I put a cylinder full of the .357MAG just to keep myself familiar with recoil and POA/POI. I go back and forth between a pair of Ahrends cocobolo J-frame grips & a pair of Hogue Bantams. Absolutely love the XS Big Dot because it allows you to pick up the front sight quick in low light enviroments. Once again the recoil from the Speer Short Barrel .357MAG has some kick because its a 13oz revolver, but it is no where near brutal.

Just because they are called Magnum doesn't make it so. Those rounds are rated at only 990 fps compared to their SB .38 Special +P ammo rated for 860 fps. Those so called Magnums are not much more than fairly hot .38 Special +P rounds. They produce them so that people who bought a 12oz .357 Magnum can shoot something marked Magnum in their very expensive revolver.

Try shooting full power .357 Magnum ammo in that revolver and you will quickly understand what people are talking about, really! Try some 158gr Remington UMC .357 Magnum ammo and then come back and tell us how not so brutal it is...

BTW, don't get upset because it's noting personal, just my opinion. Welcome to the forum Sir...

@ArchAngelCD: I am very familiar with the 158gr Remington UMC .357 Magnum ammo, it is the load of choice for my K/L frame revolvers. The 158gr Remington UMC .357 Magnum was not developed for a 13oz revolver. Elmer Keith & associates developed the 158gr Remington UMC .357 Magnum around 1934 using the Smith & Wesson 38/44 (a much heavier revolver) as its platform.

I already know that the 158gr Remington UMC .357 Magnum would be brutal coming out of such a light weight revolver, without actually doing it. It would be extremely foolish of me to subject myself to such physical discomfort just to come back and tell you how brutal it is, so I will not.

BTW, don't get upset because it's nothing personal, just my opinion. Thank you, Sir...
