I think that I might have paid S&W prices for a rifle with a S&W lower and a noname upper reciever. I wanted the S&W for the chrome lined barrel and the name

My barrel is marked "5.56 NATO 1/9". Most chrome lined barrels that I've seen are marked "c" or "cl" but this gun has no such markings.

The front of the reciever, at the end of the rail section, is marked "M4" and my reciever and barrel have M4 feed ramps, but the reciever portion is not anodized, as if it was cut after the reciever was coated. There is a small keyhole symbol on the ejection port side of the reciever, near the rail and above the ejection port.

Can someone with a legitimate S&W M&P15 verify that their markings match mine, or did I buy a frankengun at namebrand prices?

Sounds like the same as my MP 15, the keyhole is the foundry mark, the barrel is just marked 5.56 Nato1/9", M4 just below the rail, sounds all the same, no franken upper.

My early M&P15 has no markings on the barrel. The only mark on the upper is the forge mark.

The C on a barrel indicates it is a colt. Bushmaster marks theirs with a B.

No you don't have a Frankengun, mines the same also. Don't worry about it, just get it to the range, the way it shoots will likely cheer you up :)
