After searching for spare magazines for this thing, I finally figured out you need a speedloader.

I ran a search and read that the grips may get in the way, do the factory grips, or the black/silver wood grips available from S&W interfere or will I be ok?

I don't plan on carrying reloads for my BUG but for weddings and funerals if I don't have a gun on my belt and I'm pocketcarrying the little critter, I'd feel better with some extra rounds.

The factory grips are fine for use with speedloaders, and judging by hte picture on the S&W website the boot grips they carry should be OK as well.

I had a new Model 60 .357 (since sold to my regret) and the factory grips worked fine with speedloaders.

I hated the grips, though, but thats another topic...

The factory grips on my 637 work fine with speedloaders, and I beleave the S&W black/silver wood grips are cut the same so you shouldn,t have a problem. The 637 is a great little gun, enjoy yours.

Skunky-poo....

I have been carrying a 5-shot .38 Spl for a while now and I use a Bianchi Speed Strip as my speedloader. The advantage is that it is flat, can go almost anywhere, and, if you wish, you can carry that one extra round. Plus, you can do a tactical reload if necessary and you have the time.

Yes, it's a bit slower, but if you are THAT worried about speed reloads, carry a semi.

i have both the hks speedloaders and the speed strips. the strips get more use because they are easier to conceal as they are flater. the strips carry well in the small key/watch pocket in sportcoats and suits

my speedloaders worked with the original uncle mike's grips (that extend below the butt) and the UM "bootgrips" now on the 642. the only grips i've had speedloader problems with were the skinny wood "magna" grips

Speed Strips are a great idea. I've also found that a SKS stripper clip is a great way to carry 10 rounds of .38/.357 in a package about the size of a 1911 magazine. You can even carry two of them in a double-stack mag pouch.

I can bring you a few when I get to CA. PM me if you want them....

They work fine (337PD w/the same grips). This is an HKS.

NOTE: For an extra $250 or so you could have had a Tactical Titanium Model.

Those old Dades were fast for reloading but if you ever dropped one you might pick it back up with 1 or 2 still in it if you were lucky.

The HKS and Safariland speed loaders should work fine with the grips in the picture. You can find lots of both on eBay. The HKS is a Model 36 or 36-A.
