Replacement grips and speedloaders for the j frame

I'm new to this forum and I recently acquired a Chief's Special (late 70's vintage ) that I like a lot. I quickly discovered that the factory wood stocks were not going to work for me becuase the trigger guard slams the knuckle on my middle finger. I replaced them with with inexpensive snap-on Hogues which are very comfortable.

Then I purchased a Safari Land speed loader (Comp I) and I'm having a little trouble geting it to load smoothly. I'm not sure if the new grips are in the way - and it could be solved with different grips - or if it's hanging up on the cylinder release?

Anyone else having any problems with speedloaders and their snubby?

Also, I was surprised how difficult it was to find Uncle Mike's grips for the Chief. Google turned up nothing, and I finally found them by searching S&W's website. Anyone know anywhere else they can be found?

I've given up on speedloaders for small S&W revolvers. As you stated, the grips get in the way. Also, the small size of the gun doesn't help, either.

My priority is comfortable grips. I can do without a speedloader. I guess you just have to live with this when you carry a J-frame.

what kind of grips do you have on your j frame?

I think you may be right about speedloaders and j-frames, but I hate to go without a way to reload fast. Speed strips don't seem like the best answer - but are better than hand loading one at a time.

The more I practice with the speedloader, the less troublesome it seems to be - but still not as fast and smooth as I'd like.

I have a 642 with factory grips on it and i use HKS Speedloaders never had a problem loading it with the speed loader.

Until you find grips that won't interfere with a speedloader you can always use Bianchi Speedstrips.

This article might be of interest to you on J frame grips. At the very least it will give you all the options available to you for the J frame.

I know what you mean. The Hogue 'Bantam' grip I put on my old J frame gets in the way of speedloading. But they're comfortable!
