That's fairly easy. Just decide if you want a double action revolver or a single action revolver. You are comparing apples to oranges there.

They're both excellent guns.
I know, I have them, and some of their brothers and sisters.
I'd say get the ruger, that gun is a davidson's special run, and is not around to stay unless the demand is there.

Cabela's had a SST Ruger 41 mag with a Bisley grip and a 4 inch S & W M-57 a while back. I already have a 6.5 inch Blackhawk so I bought the S & W. since you are talking 41 mag either is a very good choice. you won't go wrong with a 41 mag. if it can't be done with a 41 mag you probably need a rifle anyway.

Majic, no special preference for DA or SA. I’ll be happy with any of them. Too bad that I couldn’t afford both. Son is second year at university…

Caz, talking about accuracy, which one you prefer? Did you try cast bullets in 220-250 grains range? How do you compare fit and finish?

Steveno, has Cabella Hunter model or standard, what is barrel length?

Thanks, Onty.

Reliability, I'd say Ruger hands down, at least once a Belt Mountain $22 oversize base pin is thrown in.

Probably accuracy too.

The BIG, big advantage to the Ruger will be the integrated scope mounts and included rings. That's right, it comes with 1" rings and if you want 30mm instead it's a free swap with Ruger (just send your 1" rings in, not the whole gun).

The Ruger mounts and rings do NOT interfere with the normal rear sight, and can be removed converting the gun to standard sights easily in the field and the adjustable standard sights don't even need to be re-adjusted. Putting a scope mount on the S&W means removing the rear sight completely so even if you swapped in the field, you'd have to dial the standard sight in fresh.

Then there's recoil control. The SA grip is famous for soaking up big power.

Upshot: as a hunting gun, the Ruger rules. As a self defense piece, the S&W dominates (speedloaders, for starters, plus it's DA).

What else...the Hunter standard barrel length is 7.5".

the Ruger I seen at Cabela's was not a hunter , 5.5 inch barrel and an unfluted cylinder. it sure was nice. the deciding factor was that I have never shot a bisley grip before and wasn't sure whether or not I would like it.

I have shot a 250 gr SWC (a Lee mold) in a Bisley almost exclusively for many years. I load it up and down the power scale and it's been very accurate. I also have a 195gr SWC mold that is nothing but a shortened version of the 250 grainer and it too is accurate.

The 5.5" SS Ruger Bisley w/ unfluted cylinder was the limited Accusport model.

I tend to agree with caz223 in the selection. The Ruger will not be around long as it's a limited run while the S&W w/7.5 inch full-lugged barrel is regular stock. I picked-up two of both the plow handle and Bisley. One to shoot and a safe queen of each. I've also got the Accusport SS Bisleys, fluted cylinder and roll-marked Bisleys. They all shoot real nice. I shoot the same basic bullet Majic does (250gr.WFNGC) but from a NEI mould. You can't go wrong getting any .41Magnum. Enjoy!:D

steveno

Proberly should've gotten that 41 at cabela's. It is one of the AcuSport Bisleys of which, I believe, only 1000 were made. they've become a scarce item now. Of course, knowing Cabela's they proberly wanted too much anyways. Remember what the price was? (or is if they still have it?)

I'd say the edge in accuracy goes to the ruger, but I'm not really comparing apples to apples, either.
The ruger hunter has a 2x EER scope on it, the smith has a pro point dot system on it.
It's usually quite expensive to put a scope/dot on a ruger because of the mounts, the hunter comes with rings and ring 'cuts' on the rib.
All you need is the scope!

BTW, the bisley grip is far and away the best grip on any stock single action revolver anywhere near the ruger's price range.

Oh, and the acusport is on the 'must buy' list, too.
I got one, and I must buy another....
Love 'dem 41's.

Which .41

What better way to post my first time here than on my favorite caliber the .41RemMag? I have both a RSBH Hunter in .41RemMag and a 657-5 from the Performance Center. Both are very fine revolvers. Both shoot my very first hunting load of Sierra 210g/19.5/2400/Starline brass with out a hitch. They also shoot my current hunting load of a CPBT 250g WFNGC/18.5/2400/Starline brass with equal ease. Although I keep my hunting range at or less than 30 yards both these revolvers will keep these loads inside that magic “paper plate†all the way out to 150 yards and both will keep all those rounds on the rams when I do my job. I love the .41 caliber and these two guns were my 12th and 13th in that caliber. I recently found new homes for two so I’m down to 11. My only problem with these two fine revolvers is to decide which will be with me on opening day of deer season.:)
