i have a model 63 that i inherited and lately when i try to swing the cylinder out, it sticks. also the ejector doesn't like to move after firing. any suggestions on fixing this?

The ejector rod may be tweaked. If this is the case it needs professional attention.

The ejector rod may also be loose. If this is the case tighten it (lefty tighty on these). Open the cylinder and hold the cylinder with one hand while tightening the rod with the other. Get some pliers and ever so slightly tighten it past finger tight.

and just to emphasize earlthegoat2's directions,

the ejector rod is "reverse-threaded." Be sure to put at least two-three empty cases in the chambers to help relieve stress on the extractor. See the sticky in this forum for disassembly / assembly directions.

I'd use those directions to get the cylinder out and disassembled and then do a complete cleaning of all the cylinder parts. Make sure the extractor and shaft are clean, as well as the cylinder recessed machining for the extractor. On reassembly, reinsert the empty cases, and when you tighten the ejector rod, use a parallel-jaw pliers (if you have one). With any pliers, pad the jaws; I use a patch doubled-over.

If you still have binding problems, diagnosis and repair are probably beyond typical novice-home gunsmithing skills, so look to a good 'smith for further work.

You may also clean the chambers. A lot of smith .22 revolvers have slightly undersized chambers due to variations in .22 ammo and you may have hard extraction/hard insertion or both.

A Ruger .22 auto I inherited from my Dad was gummed up with dried oil.

It might be as simple as cleaning it.

Also, if the ejector rod is loose, wrap a bit of tape around it if you're going to use pliers to tighten it.
