S&W Model 10

I have just purchased a S&W model 10 with a serial Number C197. Can anyone tell me when this gun was manufactured? Any info on the gun will be appreciated.

Probably 1948. (1948 started at serial # C1)

And that would be a .38 Military & Police / Pre-Model 10).

They didn't become the Model 10 until 1957, when a change was made from names to numbers to keep the company's computers happy.
