The store may have gotten the S# wrong on this: on the tag of a wood gripped older-looking S&W, it is identified as a Model 10 and has a Serial listed as YS 1066 (or it may be YS 1065, can't remember).

I was told that is either not the correct number or perhaps the "Y" was mis-noted and is a "V", a Victory Model. I think there are also Victorys with a "VS" prefix. I'll re-check serial number on the gun itself when I return to the store, but if was "VS" would the rest of the number make sense ( four digits, in this case, "1066")?

????? There were Victories marked with SV not VS, Serial numbers of both flavors stared at V-1 to V811119, SV inclued. Information from the 3th Edition of S&W Standard Catalog. It does not show any serial number with YS.
