I saw a cop in Chicago last year wearing a wheelgun. Looked like a S&W K frame with Target stocks. I tried to speak to him but he was so rude and belligerent towards me I walked away before he cuffed me or beat me with his baton.

Whatever bad things you hear about Chicago cops is true in my limited experience.

They may or may not be model 10s. Some may be 357magnums which would make them model 13s I think.

In my country, only a few people go armed with revolvers, I am one of them. Even against a car load of terrorists, a semi automatic pistol is still not good enough. For personal protection, a revolver's ease of use can mean the difference between life and death, a lesson just recently learned by a now dead woman trying to defend herself with her dead husbands gun. (see previous posts on the this).

I bet there's no more than a handful of NYPD Detectives or officers who still carry a revolver as a primary weapon. It's been so long since the transition now that most "grandfathered" officers will have retired.

Or maybe I've misunderstood and we should all go get a model-10 for personal defense.

(Actually, the model 10/64 is one of my house guns. However, when defensive handgun matches are considered, it seems that 10+ rd semi-autos take the day.)

I don't see a thing wrong with a K-frame primary and a J-frame backup, for his purposes, mainly the walkin' and talkin' kind of investigatin'. (BTW, the article says he has never needed to fire his weapon in all those years on the force.)
