I "accidently" purchased a Model 19-5 2.5 barrell yesterday. I had no intentions of buying it, it just sorta happend. I havent even shot it yet. I know that its gonna shoot just as sweet as its big brother my Model 13-1 4". I have shot a 19-4 for years that belongs to my dad so I wasnt suprised by its buttery smooth trigger pull. I have to admit it has the smoothes trigger I have ever pulled in DA. My question is. I am wondering if I should trade it for a Model 60. The reaso I question this is I carry daily in appendix IWB. I find the grip of the K frame sticks out more than I would like. I carry appendix because I get bumped into often and I am a hugger. I also think that with the 60 being stainless it might be better for South Ga humidity. I know that its a 5 vs 6 shot as well. I know the modern j frame trigger wont be as smooth as the K. If I were going to shoot 357 out of either Im sure the 19 would soak up more recoil. I dont I will probably shoot a few 357 out of either but primarily it will be 38 +P. I wonder should I trade and if so what should the trade be like. The 19 I bought yesterday is in super shape and the blue is beautiful. There is a slight cylinder mark but appears to have been shot very little.

The only place that a M-60 would be preferable to a 2.5" M-19 would be if your mode of carry is in your pocket.

But this is just the opinion of someone who used to carry a Colt Commander in that position in a Milt Sparks Summer Special

The famous Mae West line jumps to mind!

I agree with epiphany. If you hug someone, they will feel the M60 just as easily as the M19. I have both and think the M19 is just a superior gun...heavier but superior. Shooting .357 from the M60 just plain hurts after a while. If you spray some CLP on an old white sock and wipe it down when you take it off at night, you should be good to go.

I own both a 19-4 2.5", and a J frame m38...I love both, and they both shoot great, but the Model 19 is in whole other league as far as fighting handguns. There is no doubt which one I would rather have in my hand if I needed it.
I use a clip on IWB Bianchi holster for my Model 19, and have no problem carrying it.
You should definately shoot your Model 19 before making up your mind. Besides...you can pick up a J frame anytime...Model 19's are no longer made, and the 2.5" model is very desireable.

I, too, see a J-frame as a pocket gun, or an ankle holster gun, and that's about it. I have carried revolvers larger than a K-snub AIWB, though because I carry my duty pistol at 0300, I carry there off the clock, too, so I use AIWB only occasionally. FWIW, for frame of reference, I wear pants sized 32 in the waist, and wear medium-sized shirts if I want them to fit under a cover garment, and size large shirts if I want to use the shirt as a concealing garment. I am six feet tall.

How do I deal with hugging when carrying AIWB? Well, a one-handed hug is one way, and another is to lean into the hug, and pivot the hip on the gun side away a bit. Usually, the folks I hug know I carry, and no

The M-19 2 1/2 is quite a bit larger than a model 60. I've owned a couple of short 19s and wish I would have kept one but for carrying I would opt for the model 60. Just IMHO.

The K frame is superior to the J frame in every aspect except deep concealment-IE: pocket or ankle carry.
Lean into the hugs as suggested above. Also I have found that it helps to hug with my arms going under the arms of the person I am hugging rather than over.
In this day and age most people who feel it in a hug will most likely think it is a cellphone, PDA, etc anyway.

Yeah, I accidentally buy guns all the time, myself. :)

The 60 is lighter and more compact. The 19 is more powerful. Pick your poison.

Not to skew the subject but a recently picked up a S&W model 40 "lemon squeezer in .38+P to replace my SP101 which I would use for EDC. All I can say was that I liked the squeezer's case hardened frame...and that it was smaller than the SP101. Now I am EDC-ing(is that a word?) both depending on which one I grab first. So it appears that I was not really concerned with size but style(I'm pretty shallow when it comes to pretty guns). My suggestion is to keep the 19 for winter and non-hugging moods and get the 60 because you deserve it and can never have too many Smiths! Good luck on your decision...now for some unsolicited gun porn.:what:

The Model 60 is a fine gun and IMHO the superior gun for concealed carry. You didn't say what vintage 60 you are looking at but the later versions shoot .357 and are heavy enough to absorb some recoil. It's not a target gun anyway. I doubt you will be shooting hundreds of rounds.
The 19 is a fine revolver, for ME it's just a little big and heavy for concealed carry.
