Can someone help me identify the missing screw in a S&W Model 27-9. It's on the side panel located just below the rear sight adjustment.
I have tried to find a parts diagram for this model but have been unable to do so.
Thanks,

It's a top side-plate screw.

Call S&W Customer Service at:
1-800-331-0852 (USA)
Mon-Fri 8:00AM-8:00PM Eastern Time

They will probably just send you the correct sideplate screw.

You should be able to get the broken screw out by using a sharp metal scribe to pick at it and screw it out. You may need to use a light hammer to tappy-tap on the scribe too.

Thanks rc.

I did call S&W Customer service and they did send me a screw, but it was the wrong one.

I thought I had described it's location accurately, however the one they sent is a bottom side plate screw.

Maybe I'll call them again and see about an exchange. Or, I may just take it to my local gunsmith and have him repair it.

If you run across a parts diagram for the Model 27-9 I would be most grateful. In the mean time I'll keep looking.

Many thanks,

I would call them again.

The 27-9 Classic is of very recent vintage, and they put the forth side-plate screw back for nostalgia I guess.

Side-plate screws for the old four-screw S&W are available, but I have no idea if the new "Classic" guns like yours uses the same size screw as the old four-screw guns or not.

Your best bet of getting the right screw is still going to be the S&W parts Dept.

Who knows?
Maybe you'll get lucky the second time!

Well RC you were right ! Third time was the charm.

I called S&W one more time. This time the rep who took my call seemed to know exactly what I needed. He even described the screw's dimension's to me.

When the package arrived, I reluctantly opened it expecting to find yet another wrong part. But to my surprise, it was in fact the screw I needed.

I suppose the moral of the story is, don't give up. Try, try again...

New screw is in place and my Model 27 is looking right again.

Thanks for the advice.
