While searching for a S&W Mod. 28-2, I came across a blued S&W 27-2 with a 5" barrel. Looks to be in excellent condition, one tiny scratch near the muzzle. Locks tight, action feels smooth as skating on good ice. Asking price is $500, no box, etc. What's a fair price?

Beren...

"What's a fair price?"

Now THAT is the age-old question.

Where I am located (Massachusetts) that would be a very good price. Other places it would be an okay, maybe slightly high price. I don't have any references in front of me to see what the Blue Book or other references might say. If it's an "S" serial number it's probably a better buy than an "N" serial number (if i have my letter sequence correct).

In the shape you describe I'd say it's worth it. But if you want to try to negotiate a lower price then I advise to use C R Sam's classic advice and "bring cash".

Good luck!

Brought her home today, pictures will follow when I have a chance. I took her to the range...wow, 38 Special loads feel like .22's coming from her!

SN #N164XXX, anyone know what vintage that is?

This revolver is too beautiful to shoot. Now I have to go find a 'beater Model 28' for range work instead...sigh.

When that drawer gets too full I've got an empty, soft-lined drawer waiting for a quality, deserving example. Let me know when....

Despite my desire for a nice 27, and your apparent attachment to your fine little group, I am not interested in your demise; no matter it's eventuality. I'd like to think I'll have one by then, anyway.
Live long, and prosper.

You can't have mine even after I die, I think I'm going to have it buried with me so I can take it into the next world. It's pretttttttt-ttttyyyy!

I wouldn't compare the M27 to the M28. While they are virtually the same gun, the M27 had the superior finish.
