I recently bought a Smith and Wesson Model 34-1 .22 Kit Gun in like new condition, no wear on bluing, etc. from Cabelas First time firing it the cases stuck. I found that the chambers were leaded badly and spent an hour+ removing lead from the chambers until they were clean - no lead. second time firing a cylinder full of high velocity and cartridges stuck again to the extent that I had to use a block of wood on the extractor. Standard velocity cartridges were only slightly easier to extract. I'm wondering if the problem could be caused by somebody firing .22 shorts but the chambers looks smooth. This is my first double action .22 revolver. Is this a common problem with them?

Thanks for any help

Don't ever do that!!!!

If you can't eject all of them at once?
Punch them out one at a time with a cleaning rod or a stick until you can.

You can easily bend the ejector rod, or spring the crane beating on it with a block of wood.

No, it isn't normal with any Model 34 I ever had.

If I were you?
I would get a bronze bore brush, a package of 0000 Super-Fine steel wool, bore solvent, and a cordless drill.

Wrap a tuft of steel wool on the brush and polish the chambers with the cordless drill and bore solvent.

It will take all of three minutes to really clean all six chambers.
There will be nothing left in them that Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson didn't put there.

Also, use an old toothbrush and throughly clean out under the ejector star.

Firing .22 Shorts cannot damage the chambers.

Any chance you were shooting CCI Stingers?
The cases are longer then normal and raise pressure as well as expand into the end of the chambers making extraction difficult.

Thanks, RC. I will try your remedy. I was using CCI Velocitor 40 Grain hollowpoints and Federal Champion Standard velocity 40 grain.

Thanks for the warning on extracting the cases.

Model 34 Stuck Casings - Unstuck

Thanks for for advice, RC. It worked great, I did switch to Remington ammo.

I did notice after shooting while cleaning the chambers that I was still seeing a few little pieces of lead on the cleaning patches. I thought the coating on .22 bullets had mostly eliminated leading problems. Strangely, I didn't see any evidence of leading when cleaning the barrel.

In any case, I very much appreciate the help.
