I sent the following e-mail to Mike at Grizzly Cartridge Co. and got the following reply. Take from it what you will.

Hello,

Will your .45 Colt ammo be safe to shoot in my S&W Model 25-13 Mountain Gun. Specifically, will it damage the gun physically or throw it out of time? Or, can it be shot without worry?

Thanks,

Sir
No sorry my ammo is not made for that revolver. It won't blow up or anything like that it will just wear it out real fast!

Thanks

Marshall,
I've heard the same thing several times from several sources.

I'd grab a Ruger Super Blackhawk or if you enjoy "one-at-a-time" shooting...locate a deal on a Contender/Encore.

I have a Contender with about 10 barrels including .45 Colt and can pretty much do as I please as far as my reloads go (with-in the rules of reason of course).

I prefer the Contender's trigger to the Rugers...I also like the added velocity I pick up with the sealed chamber.

I'm glad you asked before you spent big bucks on ammo...or worse.

Bob

Thanks,

I've heard it before too. I have also heard that the new S&W's may handle larger loads better than they used too. So, I figured I would ask. I thought it may help others.

I have a Redhawk and SRH, I am covered for Max loads. ;)

Take a look at the results I got

Of course, YMMV and all that. I contacted them about the trouble ammo, and sent them the bad cases, as well as all other Grizzly brass, so I didn't fall victim to suspect brass. They did offer to replace all the ammunition, but I declined.

Incidentally, the bullet jacket piece which bound the cylinder was from 5 shots of Grizzly ammo at session number 2.
