S&w Pc 627

I just got back from shooting my new Performance Center 8-shoot 627 with 5 inch barrel. I've read a lot of stuff about how S&W revolver's aren't as good as in the old days and that PC guns aren't what they used to be, but IMHO that's all total bull. The new SS PC guns don't have the famous old deep blue but they are as accurate, as tight and as reliable as any of the revolvers from the good old days. This critter is really awesome. Hope others find the time and dollars to give it a try. With 8 shots it reminds me of the old Marlin ad - Load it on Sunday and shoot it all week! Dennis

I'm glad you like it. The 629 PC I bought a few months ago had an AWFUL trigger. I spent an extra $60 to get a trigger that it should have left the factory with.

Congrats on your new PC gun! I was close to getting one last year. If I didn't have to feed my son, I'd be about 20 lbs lighter & have a 627 to shoot as well!

My PC627's trigger is okay, but it's no better than my decidedly non Performance Center N-frames. (I'm pretty fussy, though; out of some 18 S&W revolvers, I have three that I think are good enough to not need a trip to my 'smith...)

Can you get HKS or Safariland speedloaders for the 627?

How does balance compare to regular 6 shot 4" N frame?

I tried looking for an HKS 8 shot speedloader for my 627 about a year ago, couldn't find one. I do have the Maxfire speedloaders made out of rubber, but I don't use them at all. They're better for loading 38sp. 357's are difficult to load because the length of a fully loaded speedloader butts up against the cylinder release button. I think I'm going to buy some moonclips instead.

The gun comes with three 8-shot .357 moonclips, and more can be purchased from moonclips.com or elsewhere.

Can someone post a pic please? How do they headspace? Where does the moonclip attach so it doesn't create excessive headspace?

You do not need to use the moonclips for headspacing as unlike the .45 ACP revolvers the .357 is rimmed and there is a rim around the circumference of the cylinder at the rear to allow you to use individual rounds.

At one time there was a speedloader made for the 627 that looked like the HKS that was made by a firm as best I recall in Ohio or thereabouts. It was advertised in Combat Handguns as I recall. I don't remember the name of the manufacturer or anything else.

So it is actually headspacing on the outside edge of the cylinder (on just the part of the cartridge rim resting on the outside edge) vs the whole rim on a regular revolver? When not using moonclips.

Okay I am going to have to find one of these to look at.
