S&W repair time?

6 weeks is on the long side for S&W in my experience. I had to send back a 642 to repair a bent crane and replace the barrel and got the gun back 7 days later (+/- a day), fixed as good as new.

S&W received my 627 on 1/11 got it back on 1/23 needed a new hammer, rear sight blade and some work on the cylinder.

That has to be a mistake! I have rarely heard of anyone waiting more than 48 hours for s shipping label. You should call S&W back and let them know...I've only been waiting for my shipping label about half that...
To the OP, the Shot Show probably slowed everything up across the entire gun community. I'm hearing about long turnaround times for a lot of companies because of Shot Show 2012!

The guy I talked to definitely didn't sound like he was a member of the A team.

Fishslayer, are you sure they didn't EMAIL you a shipping label instead? That happened to me once. I thought I was waiting for S&W to send me a label, but S&W was waiting for me to send the gun to them. If you've been corresponding with Smith via email, there's a chance it's already on one of your emails. You print it out and call the shipper and they'll pick it up later that day.
Just a possibility. Good luck.

When my M36 had to go back it took about 2-3 weeks.

When I owned a 1006 I sent it in for a new extractor and got it back in 7 days, no charge.
