Ok, Smiths are great guns, but are there any TAURUS fans out there? I just picked up a new Taurus 85 Ultra-Lite 2in snub. DA/SA 38 and I love it! I have only shot 100 rounds through it, all +P, but it has not broke or blown up yet, great gun. At least $100 or more less then a Smith and as an old week to week poor old washed up hippie from the 60`s, that means a lot.

I have had good experineces with Taurus revolvers since 1988. The actions generally are not as smooth as a S&W, Ruger, or Colt but nothing a decent pistlero can't work with.

I've got the 85 Multi-Alloy (although it has Ultra-Lite engraved on the frame). This one has an aluminum frame with a titanium cylinder and barrel shroud (the barrel is stainless steel).
It's been my primary carry gun for close to 10 years now since it's so easy to toss into a pocket (yes, I always use a holster!). A real go anywhere gun.
I must admit, I do prefer to carry a Glock...but my mode of dress (for those quick trips to the store) works better with the 85.

I opted for the Smith, but NOT because of any bias against Taurus. I've had a PT92 for 20 years without any malfunction of any kind. Love it! Never had a Taurus revolver, but wouldn't hesitate to buy one! I had the cash, and fell in love with the M&P340.

Probably should have bought the Taurus and given the extra $200 to charity... ;)

I had a 85 ultra-lite that was very accurate and always worked perfectly.
Wish I still had it
Last year I got a 608ss6 (8 shot .357mag) and it too has been very accurate and reliable.
My friend has a pt92 and 1911 and he's happy with both.

I've got 6 Smith's and one Taurus. The Taurus is the Judge and I bought it for a tractor gun. It does it's job well. As far as handguns, I just like Smith's. My brother in law just had to send his Taurus back for some problem that I can't remember. He wears it on his side every day while at work and uses it a lot. Shootin snakes and stuff. He seems to like it even though it had a problem.

Why buy a Taurus when you can have a good old Smith?
They are ok guns, but I'd take a Smith over a Taurus 7 days a week.

I have owned several Taurus pistols they are not Smiths and never will be I want to try a PT 38 but if it wont shoot very good it will be my last i can shoot a Colt Ruger Smith and most other handguns better than the taurus

I've got a Taurus model 66 (357) I bought new in 1987 and have put probably a couple thousand rounds through it with no problems.

Two Tauri live here. Model 85 and Model 65, both purchased in the 80's. I prefer S&W, but I could never bring myself to part with these.

I currently own a Model 44 that has been the most accurate .44 Magnum I have ever owned in my life. It continually amazes me how accurate it is. I have owned a few other Taurus guns, and they have all worked just fine.

Now there's a term I haven't heard before. Do you use the .410 shells or the 45LC for shootin tractors?

The first gun I bought myself was a used .40 Taurus Millinium, PT140 I think. Worked fine, just wanted something more suited to the range so I traded it in. I regreted it once, but then I remembered how much I liked the the gun I traded for.

I use .410 shells but I do try and not shoot the tractor. :what: I usually shoot at the rats and other varmints that run out from under the tractor when I'm working in one of my pastures. :)

A Taurus that works is a good Taurus. A 'smith of my acquaintance recommends against them because of problems with light strikes not setting off primers. It's not a simple spring issue. If you have one that works, then obviously the factory got that particular one right, and it will have a nice long life. Taurus revolvers do not blow up; that has never been a problem. I find them homely, unrefined, and with triggers that are too wide for me, in the case of the DA revolvers. The Gaucho I found much more to my liking, but not enough to buy one when I already had plenty of other good SA sixguns. I would not want to buy a used Taurus, lest it be a light-strike gun someone is trying to dump on an unsuspecting buyer.
