Bought one at Academy Sports for $299.00
I think its one heck of a weapon for the price. No ftf, ftf. shoots every thing I can feed it. And at 15 yrds in. It does everything I could ask of a handgun. And on top of that. I think its a good looking gun. Ann fellow gunners that would agree. And if there are any flies on this gun, please share.

Biggest issue is the trigger pull. Some say it is too heavy, and for a target gun I would agree but for defense it isn't that bad. Apex does make a kit for it if you do feel like changing it up. Overall I think it is a good buy.

Had some trigger-problems with the originals, years back... supposedly corrected, and these newer models are good/better... Plus, the $300 price tag is always a plus for a S&W!
Let us know how she shoots after a couple hundred rnds. Congrats and Enjoy!

This is always my recommendation for someone wanting a <$400 gun. This and Ruger P series.

357smallbore, glad you like your SD. I have had one for about 3 months and can't find a thing to fault with it. (except the 16 round mags) I cant get but 15 rounds in them. I got two 10 rounders and two 16 rounders. Got the 10's just incase they change the laws back on hi caps again. I really like the trigger(stock) I also carry a 642 in my pocket so the trigger fits my shooting skills just fine. Go watch Hickok45 online shoot a SD9VE---he is good.

Stay safe.

I've got the SD40 myself. The only two real qualms I have is the trigger and the fact that the mags rattle when fully loads (they might not do this on the 9mm).

The trigger is fixable. I've got the Apex trigger and spring kit in mine and it took it to about equal with most other factory striker fired guns.

The mag rattle is what it is, but its a fairly minor annoyance. I think they're a good value, but in this price range I do think the Ruger 9E is probably a *better* value. IMHO the Ruger is a gun priced like a budget gun but it really holds its own against almost any polymer pistol.

Smith & Wesson SD9VE & SD40VE ....

I do not own a SD9VE but I've handled a few at gun shows/gun shops. I've watched a few online T&Es too.
I think the SD series offers a lot to new gun owners or those home owners/head of households who want a simple, safe well made pistol for personal protection.
The SD9VEs have S&W's lifetime warranty & are easy to oil/clean. The DA only trigger might seem heavy for trained or skilled handgun shooters but I think it's practical for defense/CCW uses, which is what S&W designed-marketed the value type SD pistols for.

A - I've seen on a few gun shop models is the poor finish/appearance. Smith & Wesson seemed to bang these 9x19mm & .40S&W SD models out then boxed them up, .
I saw a recent product description by a well known holster maker/Kydex brand that stated 3 different factory QC inspectors check each new holster before S/H.
S&W seems to cut a few corners with the SDs but the $$$ is worth it I guess.
Online gun channel host/personality; The Yankee Marshal has high praise for his SD series pistol. He has no issues with the gun's trigger pull or fit/design.

The trigger really isn't that a big deal for me. I shoot it well, and it carries well and I just am liking it. It serves its purpose real well I believe.

I got the 40 LNIB for $200.

The trigger is so-so.

I am not in love with it, but SD distance accuracy is just fine and it has gone bang every single time.

For the price you can't do much better.

Blackhawk holsters .....

An added bonus for the value brand S&W SD pistols is that they can fit the Blackhawk SERPA holsters for the M&P pistols too. The holsters are good for range use or general CCW/open carry.

I think they're pretty much the best deal you can find under $400 or so.

Good company, solid materials, and a great price make it my rank high among budget handguns. These along with the Ruger 9E and Canik/Tristar guns are the best in their class. The SD9 gets bonus points for the lifetime warranty.

Congrats on your purchase.
I am glad that nobody replied (yet)
" if you could wait and save another $100-150, you could buy xxxx gun "
there always has to be one of those " for additional $100 " guys:D

S&W SD9VE: Glock with 1911 grip angle?

So is the S&W SD9VE a Glock with 1911 grip angle?

Trigger isn't the greatest, but it's acceptable in a CCW gun.

My buddy has one, and it shoots low, very low, from POA. Like 2" low at 7 yards.

I'm going to have him try different ammo, and if that doesn't work, different sights.

But for a $300 gun, it's nice. Shoot it and enjoy.

Have the 40 version

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the trigger

The gun weighs less than the similar sized Glock

Replacement mags are a little on the expensive side---would almost be cheaper to get another gun just for the mags.

Really makes you rethink the higher priced offerings in the collection.

So is the S&W SD9VE a Glock with 1911 grip angle?

Nah. As good a value as the SD9 is, the trigger is a lot worse than a Glock (without aftermarket parts that is).

There's no reason S&W couldn't improve it ($50 worth of Apex parts puts the SD series trigger on par with any other striker fired gun), but honestly with a better trigger the extra cost of an M&P becomes a lot harder to justify over an SD.

I'm pretty sure they're intentionally keeping the SD trigger kinda bad so as to keep the product lines properly tiered.

So is the S&W SD9VE a Glock with 1911 grip angle?
The grip angle is most definitely not as severe as a Glock. I had a S&W Sigma SW9VE that was the predecessor of the SD9VE, and it really felt great in my hand - the angle, the checkering. I ended up selling it and getting a Glock 19, when they released the Gen4 - the Gen4 grip on the Glock felt so much better than the Gen3 to me...less brick-like, more grippy, a little smaller.

I am considering an SD9VE. Seems like a lot of value for a little money. Also looking at the Walther PPX.

Mine has over 1000 flawless rounds. Best home defense gun for the money, actually worth a lot more than the price they sell for.

I've carried mine a few times but, it is mostly for home defense. If I do my part it is very accurate. The trigger works for me just fine.

I bought a 40 cal at a Gander Mountain grand opening, got two extra mags free with it for 299.00.Functioned perfect, accuracy was what you'd expect, but the trigger was long and heavy. After 500 or so rounds I sold it to a workmate and bought a Springfield Loaded Target .45 ACP.Over 9 thousand rounds later I'm a happy camper '.hdbiker
