S&W serial number by year

hey there,

can anyone point me to a resource that will tell me what year my S&W 586 was manufactured? serial number inside crane is ADZ 50XX. is there anywhere online to look this up?

Manufacturing dates are listed in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson book by Jim Supica. I have the second edition and I understand the third edition is out now. The book does not list the ADZ prefix, but ADT is Jan 1984, so it ought to be 1983-1985 area.

Just got the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition. It's worth getting for anyone looking to get into collecting Smiths. Full of awesome color photos.

Probably mid to late 1983. As was said it is not listed in the 3ed SCSW, however you can call S&W direct and they can tighten up that date a bit. P.T.
