S&W SW99 .45 Value?

Hello everyone. Have a general price question about a SW99 in .45. What is something like this worth? Original everything, grip extentions, mags, sights...

I have a Ruger GP100 6in I've been trying to sell for $400 with a scope rail, hogue grip and Truglo 2x red dot. I only paid $375 for it a year ago used. But as I put it up for sale I was asking $400. I have a Colt MKIII .357 so I don't need two.

I was being open to trades, for another gun in .45, not too picky. Got a guy offering me a SW99 in .45 for trade. My goal is to get my cpl in the next 1-2mo and was wondering if this seems like a fair trade?

I've read a bunch on the SW99 and appears to be a decent auto. Granted half of it is Walther (frame) and S&W (slide). I used to own a Sigma .40, IMHO a piece of junk, and I'm very leary of another S&W polymer auto because of that.

Thoughts?

Well he came forth and said he'd trade mine for his + $100. So I really don't know if its worth it or not now. I see a lot of 9mm versions for $300-400.

Friend of mine has this exact model. As long as it is in decent shape, it sounds like a good to very good deal from your side of the table. There are not alot of 99's out there in .45. You don't see them often, and the folks that own them don't turn em over often.

Assuming that the SW99 is in excellent condition with multiple mags (not sure which grip extensions you are talking about) I would say that it's a good trade. If you have to pay $100 on top of it it's not as good but still something I would strongly consider. If you can get it for another $50 you will be doing well, but heck, what's another $50 when all is said and done.

And yes, for a P99 type pistol in .45 this is the only game in town and they aren't all that common anymore. I happen to like mine quite a bit and would only consider selling it if I had to. It's a big gun in size but a lot of that size is offset in terms of weight by the polymer frame. At that size I wish it held a couple more rounds.

Bottom line, I think to truly gauge the deal one would have to look at the realistic value of the Ruger in today's market.

Good point. Well one of the pictures showed the orignial price tag of $535. He's the original owner and says less than a few hundred rounds down the pipe. The pics of the gun look good, he took some very close pics, no visible marks that show.

The grips pieces are medium and small I believe, it only comes with two. Like I mentioned, I only really have $375 invested for my Ruger. I, myself feel its worth $400, based on what other 6in GP100s are selling for in Michigan. So I'm really getting this for $475, which compared to Glocks and other half/n/half .45's, this seems to be in line with those prices.

Like you said, eh, whats another $50. I'm gonna give it a try. I'll try to get up some pics this weekend.

Gotcha on the grip inserts. I think I only have two for mine. It sounds like you have a good grip on values here. Mags shouldn't be hard to get and won't cost a fortune. I'd go for it, especially knowing what I know about my SW99 .45. I have a feeling that some time in the relatively near future some folks will kick themselves for not picking up the .45 when they could. Keep us posted.

Just picked it up today. I have to admit, the frame is a little larger than I anticipated. But I like the grip angle, comfort, and overall, like the features on it. Trigger is unique, will take some adjusting too. I threw in a speed loader and he threw in a 3rd mag with it.

Congratulations; the SW99 (and, of course, the Walther P99) are terrific pistols. Be sure to swap out the backstraps (there are three in all) until you find the one that best fits your hand. That feature is bust one of the nice things about this line -- a custom fit that's easy to obtain.
