S&W thumb piece interchangeable J vs K/L/N

I'm curious, can a J-frame thumb piece be installed on a K/L/N frame S&W?

No.

Can't say as I ever tried it, but I believe the frame guide slot is smaller in the J-Frame.

I don't want to take two guns apart to find out 100% sure.

I've never tried it either but in my experience J frames are in a whole other category as far as parts. I would say probably not. Of course some skill with a file can make almost anything fit. (just kidding)

The actual thumb piece is smaller on the J frame, but the nut that secures them seems to be the same. I just switched out the thumb piece on my J frame and L frame revolvers. The J frame slot is smaller and it would require some hand fitting to make the L frame part seat and fit properly, but it could be done with a little file work. The L frame part fits and works on the J frame, it just rides a little high.

The J frame part will fit and work on the L frame but it would look kinda' odd in my opinion. I'm not sure why anyone would want to make the swap, but it appears to work.
