Those that have this weapon, what are you getting for bench rest groups at 12 yards using 230 gr hard ball? I'm averaging around 4"and I'm not happy. I'm not a pistol shooter. Sometimes the first round is 3" high and the other 4 are a bit left by 2". It should be shooting point of aim.
The best guess is the trigger, pure stock, is about 5 lbs.

What is the best way to figure out what I have and how to fix it?

THANKS!

I'm confused are you saying you currently get those group from a bench?

I have a 1911a1 from springfield armory that i handload for and i found it likes
185 gr. With factory loaded 230 gr i dont get the accuracy. But it could be me
im getting a little old and need my eyes checked.

Yes, I am shooting from a bench rest.

I am well aware the problem is partically me.

One guy shot it from a rest and it went 4" high. But the holes were touching.
He also shot my XDM and he shoots that high. It shoots fine for me.

The first shot with the 45, many times is 3-4" high; I'm sure thats me.

Thanks for reading.

Best suggestion I have is to make sure you understand sight picture, proper trigger control and stance. Then practice, practice, practice.

Find a friend who also understands pistol shooting so you have a second view of what you may be doing wrong.

If you shoot your other guns fine, you may be anticipating the recoil of a different caliber, and possibly flinching.

A lot of 1911 's are set zero at 25 yds . Your about right a 12 yds. Remember a 1911 was never meant to be a target gun. People forced that roll on it . It was a Cavalry pistol . It was after WWII that people decided it should play all kind of rolls from target , to combat shooting games and SD.

Be aware that the first round/handcycled from an auto pistol is nearly always "out of the group".
Common practice is to seat magazine, rack/drop slide and "throw away" the first shot.
