I have a Uberti SAA Colt Clone. I've been perusing the net looking for a carry rig for hiking in the boonies. Are the western-style holsters with the hammer thong sufficiently secure for hiking, climbing over logs, crawling through brush, etc? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I make my own holsters. As a horseman, I often carry my Ruger in a holster, and it holds the gun securely, even at a gallop.

The secret is to make the holster like the traditional "cowboy" style, but with the trigger guard inside the holster, not exposed. That will hold the gun securely, with no need for add-ons like flaps, thongs, or straps.

S&W Model 60 5"... where can I get a holster? LH?

oops, I thought I created a new thread. Sorry... newbie here, move along, nothing to see...

The two holsters i use for my Blackhawk in the woods are a Black Hills Leather Morgan rig and a shoulder holster. Basically if i expect things to be messy or physical (i.e getting firewood in, cutting trails etc) i wear the shoulder holster under a jacket. For everything else i use the Black Hills rig and ive never had any retention problems.
