My mother just gave me one of my Christmas presents, and it's a Benchmade Pinnacle 750 plain edge black coated ATS-34 blade (It has a Titanium Mono-Lock).

The box it came in looked fairly old, so I decided to do a little research on the knife. It seems that the Pinnacle 750 has been discontinued, and the plain edged are a bit more rare than the serrated types.

It is new in box, and I'm torn on keeping it as a collectors item or using it for EDC. I have a few rare guns, but I don't mind pulling them out of the safe on occasion and putting them through the paces.

I have seen this knife selling NIB for around $150-200 on forums and auction sites. Do you guys think this will be something to hold onto that will continue to increase in value, or should I just use it and enjoy it?

well its not the kind of knife i would be prying open paint cans, digging in the dirt, and chopping down trees with....

...but opening letters, packages, small misc. tasks would be just fine...

it would be a shame to have such a fine knife and never let it see the light of day....

...ide say carry it, use it, and be happy with it.

This was a beautiful gift, do the right thing and carry it. It's a big honor to the giver that you will use it, and not try to hock it later.

Beatiful blade, made me drool.

Thanks guys. I think I'll carry it as my "BBQ" knife.

Not gonna carry it at work or when I'm out in the pasture, just when the wife and I go out on the town or to church on Sunday!

If it cost $1000 and was from a well-respected knifemaker (i.e., not a large manufacturer), I'd be reluctant to use it for EDC, but at $100-200, just go ahead and use it.

Thats a good call. Interestingly, I have a Benchmade 940 that I use as kind of my fancy knife. I am not afraid to use it daily or hard, but I generally only carry it when I am feeling fancy.
