Safe Queen Story Time

I have never liked the term NiB, or unfired. Really, how do you know it has never been fired. I just hate that term.
In the collector's world N.I.B. unfired means it has not been fired after leaving the factory, where it was fired to test for function and proofed. There is probably no such thing as a N.I.B. gun that hasn't been fired, ever.

You're right, it is kind of a dumb term...

And then prove it, where is the proof it has never been fired. It is a little like when they say buy the gun not the story.

Down to one safe queen. Had two unfired Model 15s (a dash 3 and a dash 4), took one out to the range (it shot as well as expected, of course). No interesting story, other than I have the receipt from when the revolver was sold.

When I first took a quick glance at the thread titles in the sub-forum, I thought I'd read "drag queen story time" (maybe as there'd been an article about that on my news feed screen when I booted up the 'puter yesterday).

Anyway, as Roseann Rosanneadanna would say, "Never mind."

Now that’s funny!

those old receipts and writing gun boxes, is it me or I can’t read cursive writing anymore. We learned it in grade school, but that’s it.

my collection consists of “Safe Queen” Freedoms guns! I’m buying up as much Commemorative and pimp guns as possible and shooting all of them! Like a Zoo Animal rescue, bring them back to the wilds and letting them do what they were built to do!!!

I have three guns that are for the most part safe queens, and one that was a safe queen until I bought it. The oldest is a Colt Model M that my stepfather gave me back around 1999 (he passed in 2000). It was his issued carry in WWII. I've shot it quite a bit, but very rarely in the past few years, considering its value.

One I haven't shot, but believe to be unfired because I can find no evidence it has been fired since the factory, is my S&W M29-2 NCHP 50th Anniversary Commemorative. It is one of 1080 made and was only available to present or retired Troopers when released in 1979;

One I know to be unfired since the factory is my S&W M520 (.357 Magnum). Only 3000 ever manufactured and all in 1980, it was intended as a special order for the NYSP but they cancelled the order after production started. S&W sold them to the public but never catalogued the model and only produced the number originally ordered. It only came in the configuration shown.

The one I bought that was a safe queen and was unfired when I got it is my S&W M58 (.41 Magnum). I obtained it from a retired LEO who had inherited it from his former partner after he passed. The partner had purchased it new in 1968 and put it in his safe. The guy I bought it from never fired it and put it in his safe until he started selling off his guns (he was 84 when I bought it four years ago). So, it sat in two different safes for 51 years before I got it. I've put about 300 rounds through it since I've had it. I also own a M57 that is only a year newer than this gun and split my .41M shooting between them.

I have the boxes and paperwork and accessories for all the S&W's, and all three of these guns have factory Letters for them.

I have guns I've not shot in awhile, my range time devoted to guns I carry; I suppose sitting in a safe for a decade is safe queen territory.
AR15 - at least 5 years.
Glock 45 GAP - 7 years or so.
22 lr pistols (all) - approximately 10 years
Revolvers (all) - approximately 10 years

Arthritis proly turn pop's old Ruger 3 screw .44 mag into a safe queen LOL
He shot it a lot. Its worn.
Sent for a Ruger letter, came back as a reg model.
Has Ruger brass frame though.
Wish I knew who swapped the frame (Gil Hebard's shop or my dad).

IMG_1233.JPG 1] Colt .45 SAA. Fired once a year on my birthday. The story is my Wife bought it for me when we couldn't possibly afford it. No credit card or loan, she just made payments. I think the only others are a pair of SMLE's, MKIII and MKIV. I shoot them once in a while. Of course there is that Rohm .22 that got free of the gas mask bag I was carrying it in at 55 MPH on my motorcycle. It was a piece of junk anyway. The remains sit on a safe.
