I read that it is unsafe to fire .308 Winchester in an Ishapore 2A1, since it is chambered for 7.62x51, and the brass on that is thicker than .308, which could blow out.
I also read that the pressure limit on the 7.62x51 is lower than the pressure limit for the .308, but I read elsewhere than this is a misconception, and that the pressure from the 7.62 was measured using CUP and the .308 was measured using PSI, and that they are actually almost exactly the same. The problem is the headspace. On the 7.62 the headspace is larger and the brass is thicker, so firing the thinner .308 can lead to an explosion.
If I get an Ishapore I would want to fire .308 loads from Federal or Hornady. I don't reload.

Also, is the AIA Enfield chambered in .308 or 7.62x51?

Oh, and I read that it is safe to fire .308 in a 7.62 if the headspace is correct for the .308.

I'm thinking 150 grains at a tad over 2,800 feet per second.

I really want an Enfield in .308., not 7.62. How about buying the Ishapore and getting a gunsmith to convert it to .308 Winchester? It might be redundant but then I would be assured of it's safety. Besides, .308's can safely fire oboth rounds.

If you've got that kind of money, you can send it to me.

I'll go out and grab a chicken and do the voodoo that will convert your Ishy 2A1 into a .308 Winchester.

Note: If you don't catch the sarcasm, the Ishy 2A1 is quite fine running .308 Winchester (but I guess reading the thread from a couple days ago is too much to ask).

They are the same thing!!!
It's like you're asking how to turn your son into the child of your wife.

OK, no comments about the exceptions to my statement, you all get the idea;)
