Hy all,

I just aquired an fn49 in like new condition (it is on layaway at the gunstore awaiting the arrival of my permit) with serial 613xx.

It is in caliber 30-06, so it should be Belgian or Luxemburg army, buth there is no crest of either armies vissible.

Can anybody enlighten me?

For anyone loving the fn49: one of the senior members at our shooting club, an former Belgian air force armorer, told me how he had to cut up 10 000 fn49's, unissued, in cosmoline, some with optics. How bout that :barf:

(the same outfit cut up some spitfires and scrapped original unused RR Merlin engines.)

greetings

peter

I bought a FN 49 the other day, serial 16xx, and had to do some google-jitsu to find other people's serials, with more info. Apparently mine is a Luxembourg. I believe AB or ABL on the top of the reciever denotes a Lux or Belgian, respectively (aren't they all technically Belgians? ;))

Try searching on "serial survey fn 49". Unlike the K31, it seems there is no "official" serial number data, but owners have compiled a listing of their numbers and characteristics.

The is a special corner in hell for who-ever ordered that to be done....
