So I have this NIB Saiga 223 that I bought a few years ago when they banned the import of them. I haven't shot it or done anything with it. I live in New York so our gun laws suck and this is a compliant semi auto. However I have several Mini 14s and an Ares SCR. I didnt want the Saiga anymore. I put it on Armslist for <deleted>and giggles to see if I could sell since I've never done anything with it. I haven't got any offers that were worth while so now I've decided to just keep the thing. I know you can convert them to the pistol grip like a normal AK , but I really don't mind the traditional stock. Besides I'd like to still keep it legal. I have seen pictures of wood furniture on these things and I kinda like the look. Who makes or sells them? I can't find anything. What other things could I do to the rifle?

FWIW, I'm not a NY resident, but belong to a shooting club in NY... and was kindly informed by the manager that my converted .410 Saiga was no longer legal in NY after the SAFE Act passed. I'm no expert on the subject, but i believe it would be illegal to convert your rifle... it's a fun project to do, but definitely not a good idea in NY.

I'd try the Trading Post section here or gunbroker.com

My Saiga is already NY legal. It has a normal Rifle stock without the pistol grip. It also doesn't have a threaded barrel. I purchased it in 2014 after the SAFE act was passed. Its 100% legal. I'm not talking about converting it to the AK style pistol grips. I'm talking about replacing the plastic stocks with wooden ones of the same style.

Oh, OK. well, there are wood sets for unconverted Saigas; example here.

Or your other option would be to convert it, and use a thumbhole stock like from a Dragunov. I'd go this route because the OEM Saiga trigger is pretty terrible compared to an OEM AK trigger. Just keep 922r in mind.

AKfiles (the website) will have Much more info.

My .223 Saiga has not had anything modified. Original factory configuration, parts, and very rugged/reliable.

When you pull out your wallet to buy that new stock, just remember to say thank you Cuomo.

As I fellow NYer I feel your pain

Those are nice wood stocks. I wish I picked up a Saiga back when they were around 229.00 or so. I have a Clinton AWB compliant SAR-1 that went ileagle in NY because of the PG. A vendor at the Syracuse gun show had a bucket full of take off Saiga butt stocks for 20.00 bucks. I picked one up, shortened it a bit and put on my AK to make it legal. Trigger finger reach is a little long but manageable. Cheap way to make my evil rifle a pussycat.
