Hey guys. I'm looking to convert an IZ132 7.62x39 Saiga...

Basically I've been researching alot, and i can't find a good guide.
Also, I'm looking to buy a conversion kit but I need to know exactly what I need

http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-450/SAIGA-RIFLE-CONVERSION-KIT/Detail

^ is first kit (note it is missing bullet guide!)

http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-502/SAIGA-AK47-BULLET-GUIDE/Detail

^ is the bullet guide kit.

How am I supposed to know whether the IZ132 will have a flat or round trunnion?

Also, to you guys who have done conversions, is the above everything I need? including FCG parts, screws, plugs, pins, etc?

ALSO, I'm looking to cerakote my rifle when it is done... Anyone have a good link or guide that shows me how+what to coat?

As far as I remember if you get that kit and the bullet guide you should have what you need.

Go to youtube and look for saiga conversion. Several people have posted videos. They are a big help.

Here are the standard instructions for converting:

Lastly, go to forum.saiga-12.com they have a whole tech and conversion section. Good luck and have fun.

Oh I should have added to figure out if you have the flat or round trunion you need to take the bolt out of the rifle and look at the area where the bullet would enter the barrel and you will be able to tell.

You'll need a new FCG, some way to fasten a new trigger guard on (I reused my original in both my conversions) a new stock, and something to retain the two FCG pins.

If you want to use original AK magazines, you'll need the bullet guide.

Above and beyond this, sky is the limit.

Also check out www.mississippiautoarms.com, and Dinzag.com

To clarify

When you dura gun or cerakote your ak do you paint EVERYTHING.? Including barrel, trigger and fcg, everything?

I would advise against purchasing from Dinzag Arms. Although they have a good selection and prices, it often takes upwards of two weeks to receive your items, while Carolina Shooters Supply often ships same-day or next day at the latest if your items are in stock.

Those parts should get you where you want to go.

Field strip and check breech area to determine whether you'll need a round (most likely) or flat bullet guide.

I had to use the next size up drill/tap/screw (8-32 tap and 11/64 Cobalt drill bit) to install the bullet guide because I couldn't find a small enough tap handle to use with the CSS tap. You might mention that to Greg Queen when you order.

Videos abound. Some on Saiga-12.com as well as CSS website.

Other than the bullet guide install, the most tedious part for me was filing the mag catch down...until I found a small enough Dremel grinding wheel. Easy does it, file a little at a time, and check your progress as you go with a few different mags (they can vary).

Conversion is easy and satisfying once you understand what it is you have to do.
