Hello all. I think that, for some, this is a super easy question. I appreciate your time to reply though as I am not clear fully on this matter.

I am buying this rifle ("unconverted" Saiga 5.45mm) and keeping it this way. I like the look and I have other "AK" style rifles.

So, if I want to mount an optic on a normal Picatinny/1913 rail, will the below item attach to the mount on the left side of the Saiga? I mean, out of the box and no other parts needed, just clamp it on and I'm good to go?

Thanks for your help.

You mean like this?

Side mounts are not perfect, but are the best optic mount for a Saiga or AK type rifle.

Thanks all. So I only need to buy that mount and an optic.

Mikey - yes, like that, though I was thinking red dot sight. What kind of group size do you get with that at 100m? Or do you shoot it further?

on my saiga I had a bp-02 with a russian 4X scope from kalinka. It worked pretty good.

The best looking one I have seen is the UTG side mount.
there's a video of a 5.45 with one on a popular video uploading site I am sure you can find.

The answer is yes like the others have said. If you truly wish to leave your Saiga stock, then your only option is to use a mount like the one you are inquiring about. The reported shortcomings or complaints associated with that type of system that I know of are:

1. the mount is off-centered/canted (it may be a problem just with certain brands);
2. the position of the scope is too high;
3. You cannot co-witness with red dot optics; and
4. the position of the mount prevents you from using the BUIS (may be brand specific)

I experienced problem #1 with a UTG mount I purchased and ended up returning it. Nos. 2, 3, and 4 weren't a big deal to me.

On that quick release mount,there is plastic washer on the lever. After using the quick release a few times,the washer will break. Either get it set and don't use the release,or replace the plastic washer with a metal one. There is also a version with three set screws. I have one of each;they both work great.

I had not seen a Beryl mount before. After looking at one, they might be a good solution. It looks more solid and accurate but that may be moot on an AK. I like my quick detach side mount over a receiver cover mount or forward mounted scope. I'd be interested in hearing more about the Beryl mount.
