I am thinking about doing a Saiga 5.45X39 conversion. How easy is this conversion. I want it to be able to use all standard AK mags. Moreover, I want the rifle to have the AK-profile around the handguards. I know a lot of the Saiga conversions only move the pistol grip around and the handguard area looks like the Saiga profile instead of AK. Has anyone done a full Saiga conversion? Please post pics and directions if possible. Thanks.

Generic gun forums like this one are great, but there are times when you need specifics. Go to:

That's all we do there. For what it's worth; modification/conversions on the saigas aren't that difficult. But you have to be somewhat handy with mechanical tools. Go to the sites I mentioned. That's where you'll find detailed instructions and help. FWIW: The conversions can definitely be well worth it. Saigas are probably one of the best rifle to get. A "Real" new AK, built at the Russian plant that's also building their military AK's; but with enough minor modifications to make them legal for import. And they beat the hell out of all the junkyard AK's that are put together with spare parts. Saigas are quality and a great price.
