I wanted to straighten up my front sight block and possibly take it off to move back for barrel threading. I removed the two pins but couldn't move the sight block. What is the method for doing this? Is this something that is best done by a shop and if so what is a good one to send it to? I've done some conversions but this is the first adventure messing with the barrel.

Its pressed on. Are you SURE its canted? Check it with a level. I thought mine was after I man-handled it and cut off the shroud and threaded the barrel.

If you want to do it without taking it to a machine shop or gun smith ($$$), I dunno... I bet it would be easier to cut the thing off and put a new one on.

Make sure its truly canted, because thats almost unheard of in SAIGA.. thats more of a Century thing. If not, you can cut some of the shroud off and thread. I just did this, look for ChileReno's SAIGA conversion thread in this topic.

First I've heard of that too. The sights on my Saiga were pretty far off though, had to drift the front so much the cylinder was almost out of the base.

I'm actually surprised to hear of canted sights from Saiga.
I thought these were high quality AK's, simply put into sporter stocks.
Is this a common problem with Saigas? If not I've been thinking of buying one for a few months now.

Rarely a problem. The rifle will still zero even in more extreme cases. To fix the ones he works on, Tony Rumore just smacks it with a big dead-blow hammer.
