Saiga or SKS

The Saiga is the new SKS, in my opinion. More versatile: box mags are easier than stripper clips (even though the mags themselves tend to be expensive), and they have a standard Russian siderail for mounting the Russkie optic of your choice.

There are high cap mags available, but they are $65 a piece...

Here's where they are...

Call (850) 926-5500. Ask for C.W. If you are Law Enforcement tell him and get the L.E. price.

Man, I should be getting a commission for these things... LOL

I'll withhold comment on Collectors Firearms, but as usual, that SKS is way overpriced.

Seconded on Collector's Firearms. I was in there earlier this week looking at Saigas, and realized I knew more about 922r than the salesman did, just from what I'd learned here and on the Saiga forums.

That being said, I'll probably go back there to buy that Saiga very soon. It's a bit more expensive than other places I've seen them, but not so much after shipping and transfer fees.

Get a Saiga unless you want the SKS for the history of the rifle.

Saigas, hands down, are the best guns for the price out there right now.

I'm a first time Bubbasmith and I've only been a gun owner for the last year or two and even I did a nicer job (IMO) at Bubbaing my Yugo that the linked pic. And that's with the wrong tools and a "hack it and see" method of learning.

Buy the Saiga or a nice -stock- SKS. I bought my SKS, loved it but found a few things that didn't work for me (hence the mods). I still love it, but my scoped rifle is going to be a Saiga.

Where can you get a stock SKS you ask? Well, either find one for sale in your area and do a FTF, or try one of the many excellent online dealers and get it transferred at your local FFL.

I ordered one from Centrefire and it was a peach (I wasn't able to collect it at the time due to an immigration papers snafu). Not the cheapest place to get one, but I found them amazingly helpful (they refunded all my money bar shipping on a no fault return LONG after the usual inspection period) and my orders since then have been flawless.

I also hear good things about Classicarms, but I haven't done much business with them myself on the few small things I have ordered.

I love my SKS, but if you're tall or have long arms, it's probably going to be a llittle short in the rump and if you're as blind as I am you'll find the (decent) sights need switching out.

I happen to be a fool for Tacticool, so I did a lot more switching than that, but it's still an SKS in my book :)

yep classic and onepoint are the lowest priced places to get a Saiga, I bought mine in state from one of the guys on the Saiga forum, he's not my local dealer, but I'm keeping the money in State...
