I've been looking for an in-expensive AR. But with the fears that the gun ban is coming back, the price for them is outrageous. I found this Saiga rifle at a gun show for $600. Everything I have seen so far tells me its a good gun.

So, what do you guys think?
 
$600 seems steep for a 7.62x39, or .223 or 5.54 Saiga. The Saiga 12's and .308's are going for around that though. Just wait it out there is no ban coming soon and the Saigas are a sporting rifle anyways.
 
I have lots of Saigas, but I got mine when they were under 300$ for the shot guns and the .223's they are great and shoot good.
 
You can find great ARs in the $800 range, or at least I have.

Not quite- Siagas are tough to get ahold of for reasons outside of manufacturing capacity. They're tough to get imported at the moment. So I doubt you'll see an over supply problem with them. But prices should come down somewhat once people ease up on the fear of a ban.
 
Right now I'm seeing Saigas going for between $600 and $800. That's a shame as mine, a .223, .308, and a 20 guage that I traded, were all bought for under $270. They are excellent rifles, but at the current prices one of their great aspects, being a value buy, is diminished.
 
Just a cursory scan of gunbroker and I see a small handful of Saigas available with a BIN of ~$400-$450. Gunbroker is the home of idiots and inflated prices these days so you should be able to do better than that. My advice would be to go to a big gun show with cash and shop around.
 
600 for an unconverted saiga is high even in todays market. I would keep shopping if it were me.
 
A bit high....

In my area they are between $419 and $499 for the 223 and 7.62 models. Not crazy yet, but bordering on it.....
 
Locally, Tampa FL, last month, I purchased a Saiga 12 for $499. The same gun store had a .308 for $600. If the rifle is around when I get my tax return I am going back to purchase it. The motivating factors being it is local and it is a 16" barrell; I am not interested in a 20" barrel.

That price is high, even in the market we are having to deal with right now. I would expect to pay 350-400, if you look around you should be able to find that. as for the rifle itself...I have a 7.62 and its a beaut! I wouldnt get rid of it for anything... Reliable, parts are easy to find...ammo...well I will leave that to another thread...

If you can find one at a decent price Jump on it!

Just mention the word "O" or "B" and any justification for anxiety can seem plausible.
The sellers are smiling behind peoples' backs::)-
all the way to the bank (or a Caribbean island;)).
 
I paid $450 for mine, and really had to think about it. The first one I saw (late '03?) was priced at $189 plus tax.

If it had already been converted, and I had $600, I'd snatch it up (which would make two that I cant find ammo for). But for an unconverted Saiga, I'd pass.
 
I paid $270 OTD for each of my saigas a year ago. I just bought a .308 for $450 about a week ago.

It is insane what has happened with gun prices but aslong as people keeping buying they will stay there our go up,
 
I paid $500+ for Saiga .308 last year at the gun show, this is crap, factory tested 4 shot group 3.5" at 100 yards, if you going to buy one get one which is accurate, Saiga docs always have factory firing specs, I didn't know when I got mine... o yeah if you plan to reload Saiga chews and dents brass, you might be able to reuse brass 3 times at most... I heard now .308 Saiga's go for 900 or more... hmmm maybe I can sell my :-D
 
Saiga's are over USD 1K in France. (700 odd Euro's).

Not cheap to say the least.
Fortunately there are a few dealer who have managed to get Milsurp Ak's and Vz's and are disabling the happy switch and selling for around 400 Euros.
 
I had no problem spending $500 on mine; I would spend (up to) $700 for a converted one. Okay, they might have been $XXX when I saw them X years ago- but if someone is going to pay $700 for an AK parts gun, why not spend $700 on a new Saiga instead? Anyhow, the most I have seen them for in FL is $550.
 
Yeah, $600 is definitely high. I recently bought one in 7.62x39 for $400 from Centerfire Systems.

I love mine. Its full potential cannot be realized without a conversion, however. I would say skip it if you don't want to mess with the whole conversion process.
