I'm looking at buying a Sako Forrester rifle in an estate sale. It's got the full length stock and short barrel. Any one have any comments on the brand? Any ideas as to a good price on one in good to excellent condition?

These are excellent rifles. I have a full-stock .308. with a lefty action.

Great shooter, very handy rifle. Sako mannlichers actually have a two-piece forearm that is joined under the front barrel/sling band. Mostly eliminates the tendency for full-stock rifles to shoot less accurately.

How much do they want for it? I coughed up $1200 for mine brand new. Worth every penny.

I have a Sako 75 Hunter in .300UM. I Have fired it at 100, 350, and 500 yards with extreeme accuracy. The 100 yard 5 shot groups using Remington 180gr Nosler partition were less than 3/8". The only modifications I have done to the rifle is add a KDF muzzle break and Swarovski pro hunter 6x24x50 30mm scope. You just can't go wrong with a Sako. :D

Sakos have an outstanding reputation for quality and accuracy.
I have no first hand knowledge of the rifle you've described, but FWIW following are the listed values from 22nd edition of Fjsetad's Blue Book.
100% $950
98% $875
95% $725
90% $600
80% $475
Hope this helps.

My caribou killer and all around rifle started as a manlicher Sako carbine (its 338), I got rid of the stock and put a synthetic on and its now really a great rifle. The only one I use.

I believe Sako's to be the finest production guns available today. They've ruined me on the likes of Remington forever.

My search for the perfect walking around varmint rifle ended with a .223 Sako Model 75. Accurate, well-built and beautiful.

It's the third Sako to grace my gun safe and each was an excellent product.

I'd like to buy a new Sako, except they have that "Key Concept" lockout device. I don't buy any guns with lockout devices.
