I often "talk shop" with the staff at my local range after I finish my weekly shooting session. This week was a real treat, as one of the staffers mentioned he had something special on loan from a friend and brought it in so I could check it out.
A complete Sako Tri Ace competition pistol kit with case. The Tri Ace was available with three seperate "uppers" in .22 short, .22 lr, and .32 s&w calibers. The kit comes with all three slides, the frame, and several magazines for each caliber. The action, fit and finish were excellent reflecting the worksmanship I've admired on Sako rifles and my Tikka T3.
The actual owner supposedly competed at the Olympic level and this is one of his pistols. Judging by the British firearms acceptance stickers plastered all over the thing I'd say this was no exageration. It needed a good cleaning, and I think I would have removed the stickers as well. I was told these are very rare in the US, especially the full kit with all the slides.
Has anyone had experience with these before, or fired one? I'd be interested to hear how they perform. Very cool firearm.
The only decent pics I managed to find are from a gun auction:
