Been trying to buy a (few) 550 rnd Walmart issue Federal 22 rimfire bulk packs the last couple weeks with no luck. I visited a couple and called several Walmarts in the area but nada. NO 22's. I happened to be in a WM today picking up something for the wifey and happened to stroll by the sporting goods 'counter' where verthing firearms related is kept under close eyeballs.
Clerk was there, asked him about availability, and he said sure, we have the Federal bulk packs you have been looking for.

Well to make a long story shorter, he places a 325 round box of 22's on the counter and mentions they are $14.50. Now this is about a buck more than they were selling 550 round boxes for a week ago ( i happen to know someone who bought some). hold on to your shorts. When prices at Walmart jump from about 2 1/2 cents to almost 4 1/2 cents in a week [Remainder of post deleted due to unsuitable language.]

We endured 4 dollar gas, why should ammo be different? I bet it be a good time to invest in brass, copper, silver and tin.

Keep your eyes peeled. It's coming your way. I saw it first hand at one WM and spoke with a clerk at a 2nd where she confirmed the increase.

Be forewarned. Ammo prices (even lowly 22's) are not coming down like the price of gasoline and home heating oil. I'd bet my life on it.

It is likely NOT just a retail increase but a wholesale increase that the store is paying and must pass along.

At a show last weekend I saw a dealer asking $30 for bricks of crappy Thunderbolt.

You are absolutely correct. Even though they retail many things we all need like moonfloss, cheap soda, and bargain basement ammo I like to pee all over WM. Too much crap coming from Asia. I'd rather pay a couple bucks more and get something made in America. They've got women and kids in sweatshops making this crap. Sadly, as much as we don't like to admit it, mainsteam society is driven by price.

I'm a bit older now, and it's all just starting to make sense...

I have a dream. In this dream, we go for forty eight hours without a single crapping-on-Walmart thread in GGD.

Sadly, it remains a dream.

<sigh>
