Sanctuary Cities? (Austin, LA, NYC)

I read This Interview with O'Reilly. I was not aware of this so called sanctuary city deal. So, I am asking here for some info. (I know there have been some changes in this forum recently, but I think this qualifies as a Civil Liberty Issue)

So, if a city like Austin claims to be a Sanctuary City, and they don't report the crimes of illegeal immigrants....Uh. Why and How is that legal per county, State, and Federal law? So, our laws on little things like MURDER and RAPE don't apply to non-citizens? Can't people sue these cities for aiding and abetting(sp?) criminals?

A year before, Morales was arrested for allegedly molesting a 12-year- old girl, but, since Austin, Texas, is a "sanctuary city" that doesn't report the crimes of illegal immigrants to the feds, Morales was allowed to continue living in the USA.

this guy went on to allegedly rape and kill a teenage girl.

Believe it or not, even being in Texas, Austin is as liberal as NYC or San Fran.

Oh I knew Austin was liberal.

I guess I'm just kind of floored by the concept of cities being able to do something like this. I am looking for clarification on the legality of this.

I don't see how a City can harbor a criminal from state or federal prosecution. I understand that perhaps they could send the illegal guy to say, the Mexican Embassy, and he would be shielded there, but....I don't get it otherwise.

Also, is this an under the table nudge nudge wink wink sorta deal, or is it an on the books, advertised policy of these cities?

Same thing up here in Oregon. The city of Portland has the same policy.

Not to mention the city of Portland is going to withdraw from the Joint Terrorism Task Force because the FBI refuses to grant top secret security clearances to the Mayor (not even the major of NYC has requested it) :banghead: .

So many of our cities have become liberal havens where enemies of our country, both overt and "accidental" (I say accidental since most illegals actually want to make a life for themselves, and aren't trying to destroy our country, but are) are allowed and actually encouraged to congregate.
