I have done firearms coatings for several years at the company I used to work for. I am in the process of setting up a smaller operation on my own as I don't have access to their setup anymore. I am working out all the details of the sandblasting unit at the moment and have hit an obstacle. I am currently looking for an effective dust removal system that doesn't cost a fortune. This will be hooked up to the Harbor Freight small tabletop blast cabinet using aluminum oxide media. My idea is to use an ash vacuum to remove the fine dust from the cabinet. My thinking is that it would do fine with sandblast particles if it was made for ash particles. It also has an explosion proof motor (which is important). I can get one from Home Depot for around $62. The two links below are #1 the ash vacuum from H.D. and #2 the proper unit for production sandblasting that is quite expensive. Any input would be much appreciated.

The two arguments I have read about using shopvacs is that they don't have an explosion proof motor and that the dust destroys them with prolonged use.

RC, I do have a shopvac. It is on the larger side with a 3" hose. I will take a look at the drywall filter bags. I guess you can't get much finer than drywall dust. Thank you for the info.
