SASS Loads

Anyone have some SASS cowboy action shooting loads they can share? Much obliged.

# 1 load fill the case with Black Powder and shove a bullet on top.

Other than that what caliber are you shooting?

38 special and I got a decent amount of Hornady 140grain cowboy bullets.

I would probrably use between 3.0 and 3.5 grains of titegroup, remember to double check all load data. This is from the Hodgdon website, but you still will want a second source.

I have had very good luck with titegroup in 38 special

Also Alliant lists cowboy loads for that bullet on their web site

Can't help you with .38, but here's my receipe for .44 Mag and .45 Colt:

44 Mag
200gr. FP over 4.8gr Clay's, moderate crimp, Winchester large pistol primer, 1.560 OAL

45 Colt
200gr. FP over 5.2gr Clay's, moderate crimp, Winchester large pistol primer, 1.579 OAL

I shoot the 44's with two 7-1/2" SS Vaqueros and a Marlin 1894 Cowboy. The 45's launch from two Cimarron Thunderers and a Winchester 1892. The Clay's seems to burn cleaner than most. I prefer Winchester primers because, 1) the tray they come in lets me more easily dump them on to my flip tray with all of them facing the same way (I'm lazy), 2) I like the gold color in my cowboy loads

These combinations work for me.

Here are my Titegroup loads for 38 sprecial:

125 TC, various makers, 3.2 grains
140 TC, Lazer Cast, 3.0 grains
158 RNFP, various makers, 2.7 grains

All are with regular primers. I haven't used the Hornady bullet but the 3.0 grain load was giving me about 700 - 750 FPS in a 6 1/2" barrel. All these loads are light, I think some are below the starting loads listed in the manuals.
