Is there a way to restore part of a 1911 frame that was satin but is now shinny (Mothers Mag). Not sure how they make it satin to start with

Personally, I'd get a price on the work and weigh it against the tools and materials to do it yourself. A media blaster can be had fairly cheap if you have a compressor and the material isn't too bad either.

Sanding sucks and the options with media blasting sold me on a Harbor Frieght media blaster that has served me well so far.

Thanks
It is just a small place on the slide, I guess It was wishfull thinking, to just restore that one spot. "Bead blasted", well that will give me something to do if I run out of primers and powder.

can you post a pic.....there may be an easier way than reblasting the entire slide

Before you go trying to restore a satin Stainless finish, make sure it's Stainless!! It could be Hard Chrome, Satin Nickel plating, etc. Yeah, I know it sounds silly but it's happened before. Some person decides that they want their Stainless pistol to be more satin looking. So, they toss the part in an abrasive blaster cabinet, shoot an abrasive at it for a while and voila! Ruined Nickel or Hard Chrome. Keep yer powder dry, Mac.

The shinny place on the frame just ahead of the slide stop, is what I would like to restore to satin, if there is any way.
(sorry, best I could do for a picture)

Don't know for sure but the finish may be "brushed" and have parallel fine scratches in the finish. If so a scotch brite pad ( Maroon) from a auto body paint supply store can do a good job of restoring the finish. Just go straight from end to end and never reverse the pads motion. If you do you will get squigglies in the finish and it will look as bad as a "polished" stainless frame.
Who told you to do that anyway?:cuss:
