I found what I believe to be a really good deal on one of these today but I have a couple of questions. This looks like a really good Tactical/sniper rifle with the nice stock and the oversize bolt handle. While I love the detachable mag I have got to wonder if it hurts accuracy. The other thing that I wonder about is that I know a lot of guys like the FN because of its positive feed system. What are the drawbacks to the Savage push feed. I have 9 Savages already so you might say that I am a fan. If you have one of these or have shot one let me know what you think. I want it to shoot out to 600 yards so I would hope for around 1/2MOA like most of my other Savages. While i don't mind some of my other rifles being a little fussy, I want this one to perform reliably. Let me know what you think.

The detachable mag won't hurt accuracy. With 9 Savages, you should know if the push feed cycles ok. A lack of CRF won't hurt, unless you're cycling the rifle in a hurry, upside down. It's an internet thing, some people think the world revolves around CRF, just like some people think the only combat handgun is a 1911, and they'll argue it to the death. I'd get it, and get the 10rd mag extension from SSS.

I have that exact rifle - it is a shooter out of the box. Last Friday I took a friend to the range - he couldn't believe we were hitting a 8" steel pig at 600 yards consistently. You couldn't even see it without the scope/spotting scope if you didn't know it was there.

Load was:
175gr Berger VLD
BHA/Win Match brass fire formed.
44.8gr Varget
Fed 210 primer
OAL 2.812"

I have the 10FPLE2A and love it. After about 1000 rounds it shoots in the 1/2 moa and has nothing but a lapping I did done to it.

Thanks for the replies so far

Keep them coming. GVNWST, If we all boycotted all the firearms companies for all of their so called faults and infractions, we would have to give up all of our guns. You couldn't own any Ruger because of Bill Ruger policies. Smith and Wesson supposedly sold us out years ago by cowtowing to the Government. God forbid you should buy anything made in China, because it is made in China. Last year some gun writer made the mistake of critisizing AR 15s and some people wanted us to boycott Remington etc. because they advertised in magazines that the man wrote for. If the product works well and I can afford it I will buy it. Hey don't tell anybody but I occassionaly will even drink Pepsi, though I do prefer Coke.

Avoid dealing with any company you choose

for any reason you have but please, do not expect me to do the same. I own Ruger and S&W products. I own Norinco model 97 shotguns. I like the HS precision stock and If I feel that I can afford it I will buy it. Hey I even shop at Wal-mart.

Sounds like a great rifle! I took a 20" 10FP barreled action, and put it in a B&C Tactical Medalist, shoots .5moa when I do my part.

Curious as to why you think a box mag would hurt accuracy?

I wouldn't worry at all about the push feed bolt. I can actually turn my Savage .30-06 upside down, sideways, or anyways, and it will still feed everytime. Savage makes a very accurate rifle. I'm wanting a short action myself. I also got plans to switch my '06 to a 6.5x55. Should be a fun project.
