Went looking for a new bolt gun and decided on a Savage 10FP-LE2 in .223. According to the website, this model comes with a 26" barrel. Had my local 01 order it yesterday. Well, picked it up today and discover a 24" barrel. Hmmm? Called Savage. Their customer service line closes at 4:15 ET. Missed it by 10 minutes. So those with a .223 LE2, please, what's the barrel length?

a few things could explain this, one the 26" tube is special order (kinda odd and screwy if it is considering that the website lists a 26" barrel fo the LE2), there has been a spec change and now the LE2 receives a 24" barrel just like the non-"LE" 10FPs, while the LE1 retains it's shorter 20" barrel (this possibility is actually quite likely, since it reduces the number of heavy barrel variations they have to warehouse), or there was a miscomunication somewhere and you have a Standard 10FP.

but by all means call savage and find out. but just to cover your own end of things take a close look and make sure that you were not shipped the wrong model first (just a suggestion, to cover ALL bases)

i will say that the 10FP with a 24" barrel in .223 is a VERY good shooter in my experience, if not for having to make a choice between food and keeping it, I would have never sold mine....

My shop had a .308 LE2 w/ a Choate stock and 26" barrel - they had it until
I bought it. :) I'm having them mount my scope today/tomorrow and should get
it back by friday afternoon (what timing!)

Well another visit to the website and nothing matches to 24". No big deal, as it's a match to my earlier 10FP in .308 with the Sharp Shooter trigger. UPS just dropped off the scope I ordered. A Leupold VX-II 3-9x40mm Mil Dot. Nice! Wish my other scope was as nice as this one. Guess I'll have to start saving my pennies again.

My LE2B (.308 Win) is measuring 26" from the muzzle to the front of the bolt.

you sure it's an LE2? does it have the big bolt handle? the 10FP's have 24" barrels and the 10FP-LE2's should have 26" barrels.
i know that i have seen the 26" .223's before.

If you look at the website or the product sheet that came with the rifle, there's not a 26" .223 unless you're looking at the LE2A. Of course, that's what they're currently listing and doesn't reflect anything they've offered in the past. The LE1A is listed at 20 inches and the 10FPXP series is only listed in .308. What I received appears to match my previous Savage, a 10FP, but in .223, a 24" tube with the AccuTrigger.

To summarize, according to the info on the website, I attempted to order something that doesn't exist (a standard stocked 10FP in .223 with 26" barrel) and received a standard stocked 10FP with 24" barrel. The only thing I can figure is that I must have read the info in the site incorrectly.

I went and looked at the site again.

It appears that the only 10 - 26" .223 Rem available in LE form is the LE2A (Choate stock) as you mention. The only other 26" .223s are 12s. LE2s with standard stocks in .223 are not available. I can understand the error. Don't know why if 26"/.223 is available for LE2A, why is it not available for LE2. If you haven't shot it yet, call/e-mail Savage to see if they can swap it out for a longer (actioned) tube. Probably not but it never hurts to ask.

hksw,

Called Savage Customer Service and they confirmed that the 10FP does not come in a 26" barrel in .223. So, what I thought I ordered doesn't exist. I'll just keep what I have.

9 Aug, Update

This clears up my confusion: it's now listed as a Varmint: Savage 10FP
