Just a note, on the stocks from the above linked vendor.
I am not in ANY way trying to discourage buying from them, i thnk they make a great product, I simply think that before buying there are a few points to be aware of.
they are NOT finished, and that fact is spelled out in the website so i figure you already know that. if you have the time and patience to sand and buff and oil them, AND to do the final "minor bits" of the inletting, etc they are great esp in light of the price. saw a person on another board though that said something to the effect of "if this is 98% finished i'd HATE to see 90%!! so on that score if you have the tools and time these can be absolutely wonderful and beautiful stocks (as evidence by the pics on the site) it's just that some folks i've run into over the net think that the extent of final finishing is a bit more than the website lead them to believe.. ~shrug~
second point, and relating to Savage stocks only, the units from Microfit do NOT have the bedding pillars, so if you want these (and you should, they're part of what makes the savage as accurate as it is) you'll have to either install a set yourself or get a 'smith or someone else who'd know how to do that work.
i personally don't have the aptitude for THAT bit of finishiong a stock. so i've had to pass on these as a possibility for MY savage project.
all that said in the next year or two i intend to build a 10/22 for my step-daughter that will be stocked with one of Richard's stocks.
again the above info is simply to let you know. b/c i think it best to pass on as much info as possible, so as to let the other person make as informed a decision as possible.
good luck and whatever you decide to do we wanna see pictures
