Savage 24B-DL

I have a Savage 24 in .22LR over 20ga. I've recently noted that some of the 24s have the barrel selector on the hammer, some on a button on the side of the receiver. Mine is on the side.

Was mine an early model? Was there a reason for the change?

The side selector is earlier. The change was made because the button frequently came off and the transfer bar didn't always work properly. The hammer mounted selector was simpler, cheaper and more reliable.

... and the hammer selector is an easy retrofit. I replaced the side button on one of my 24s with a hammer selector that I purchased from Numrich.

Thanks, Legionnaire. Good to know. Is the hammer selector quality? For some reason I had in my mind they would be less reliable.
