Depends highly - need more info... Are they BOTH Leupolds? If so, which is which - is the first one a VariX-1, VariX-2, VariX-3, Rifleman, VX-1, VX-2, VX3, Long-Range, Premier, what? And same question for the second one (the 4-12) - what KIND of Loopy?

Provide more info

Reticules and mounting gear? 7mm can get by with a fixed 4X with 30mm tube if you can find one.

10X for the Savage. I tried my M3LR on it but like the SSM better.

The 3.5-10x50 is a Vari-X III. The 4-12x40 is a VX-1. The Savage is a heavy barrel and Ruger will be my deer/elk rifle.

Hmmm, I see the wisdom in what Shawnee said, because hunting could be done in low light conditions, and you want a lower low-end magnif. on a hunting rifle - the 3 is better than the 4 for close-in hunting situations.

This is what I'd do - if you're LEO and would actually possibly employ the Savage in a life-or-death sniper situation (or if you are expecting an Al-Quaida invasion), then go with the Vari-X III with the large objective on HB Savage, and the VX-1 on the Ruger.

If on the other hand, more likely, the Savage will be limited to a range gun shot in the light of the day, not low light conditions, then I'd reverse and put the vari-X III on the Ruger and the VX-1 on the Savage.
