If $350 is your budget I think you'd really like it. If you can swing another hundred bucks or so though I highly recommed getting a Tikka T3 instead.
Just curious, but which model of Tikka is only $100 more than the Axis?

Here in Denmark the Axis costs the equivalent of $625 (3600 DKR) and the cheapest Tikka I can find (the T3 Lite) costs $1215 (7000 DKR).

Gun prices are really screwed up over here!

A friend of mine earlier this year bought a brand new Tikka T3 Lite in 308 for about $475. We compared it to the Axis & it was no contest. So, give or take a hundred bucks more.

Sorry to hear about your prices!

EGW is a local company that is well known for 1911 work...but now their core business is to manufacture parts. I personally like the 20MOA bases since I tend to shoot longer ranges and 20MOA bases helps.

Aubie515: pardon the lack of knowledge but what is an EGW base? I am planning on replacing the scope and rings on my axis after this years hunting season and if an improvement can be made to the bases as well I would love to know about it.

Thanks.

I bought an Axis. It came with a scope and cost $417. Not the best price for it -- Dick's was selling it for about $320. However, the gun itself is very accurate. It may not have an accu-trigger but the trigger isn't creepy or stiff. It's fine. I wouldn't even lighten mine. The stock is synthetic but for hunting, it's just the thing. There's nothing wrong with this gun. It's a good rifle and it's being sold for an excellent price for what you get.
