Savage barrel & nut torque specs

There is no proper barrel torque.
It is a free spin in against a GO headspace gage.

The nut holds it in place.

Savage says 70 ft/lbs on the nut.

It doesn't need to be that tight though.
Probably 45-50 isn't going to come loose by itself.

Thanks RCModel for your prompt reply.
I am swapping out a 270 for my new McGowen barrel from
Savage-Barrels.com in 6.5x55mm.
New experience for me, looking forward to the conversion.
Don't know what I'm going to do with the 270 barrel though.
Thanks again...

Swap it for a 6x55mm wildcat bbl, of course, & pick up a .22" PPC bbl in the deal... : )

I'd keep it, so when you come back too your senses, you can make it a good old .270 again!!

Boy, didn't expect that comment!
I always thought the 6.5x55mm caliber was liked on this forum.
To each his own.

rc isn't a grouch, merely irascible,. And the 6.5x55 is a great cartridge, just like the 270 & all the others. Knock yourself out, and if you think you might want to switch back, just hang on to the barrel. If not, sell/trade for something that tickles your fancy...
