Savage bolt action cleaning and assembly help

Ok the savage 16 trophy hunter xp is the first bolt gun I've owned and I have a few questions. the manual talks about removing the bolt and cleaning/lubing the barrel. Is this the only cleaning you do? Is there cleaning of the bolt or action or anything to do?

I'm going to adjust the accutrigger but am confused about the instructions on reinstalling the stock. Can someone provide clear instructions and/or pics? The manual was confusing. Thanks

Any other tips for a first time bolt owner?

I you need that much help to take the stock off and put it back on to adjust the trigger?

My advice to you is put down the screwdrivers and step away before you hurt yourself.

Learn to shoot the Accu-Trigger the way it came.
It is factory adjusted to be safe for a new shooter.

Once sighted in, never take the barreled action out of the stock for cleaning again.
Unless you fall in a river, or just want to sight it in again.

Clean with a cleaning rod, solvent, a brush, & patches from the breech.

Wipe down with a silicone cloth or oily rag every time you get done handling it.

Ok.... Little harsh there. I've never owned a bolt gun and just wanted to be thorough to Mae sure I fully understood assembly/disassembly before taking it apart. I own a lot of guns and always do this. The savage instructions weren't very well written is all.

all jokes aside no reason to take the rifle apart and clean it, just shoot it, the barrel doesnt need cleaning. you can wipe your bolt down if you like them just put it away.

There's no reason to take the action out of the stock unless you need to fix or adjust something. In fact, there are good reasons not to. If you reassemble the gun with vastly different torques on the screws you can potentially change the accuracy or point of impact.

Just remove the bolt and clean the bore from the breech end.

Agree with posts so far with a slight addition: remove bolt from gun, purchase and insert / use a bore guide/protector if using rods (particularly flimsy Multi-piece rods). Or get an Otis pull through system. I have a Bore snake that does an AMAZING quick clean with just a couple pull throughs. Use it at the range every 10-20 rounds, and when I'm done shooting, especially if I won't get to a better cleaning for a while. I can't say that I agree with the "Just don't clean it" idea, however it is said far more guns are ruined by improper cleaning than not cleaning at all. My solution and advice is find learn and get good at a cleaning method that you are comfortable with.

As to the stock question. I have an Axis and on mine it was just two screws, and double check the recoil lug before putting back together. Not sure how different your rifle is but why seems to be tripping you up on the re-assembly?
