I decided to try a Savage tactical bolt handle:

There are shinier, fancier more expensive ones out there, but for 40 bucks I thought this warranted a try. This is the Cabela mania Savage 12FV rifle, by the way.

Fairly straightforward part change but...when they say it is very tight, what an understatement! once broken free, it can be removed allowing the handle to come off, and the new one swapped in. Retighten the bolt and you are good to go.

Do not underestimate how tight the bolt holding the handle is! Now, as soon as play money allows, on to the MDT chassis.

I swapped out the bolt handle on my 12FV .223 a couple of years ago. As I recall, some decent force was needed, but not too difficult. Got the tactical bolt handle from Sharp Shooter Supply for about $50 I think.

Mine was really, really tight. It came loose with a crack that sounded like something broke!

Sort of like a really tight headbolt on a v8 engine....minus the breaker bar. I really thought the allen key broke. It was flexing a decent amount!
